Iran Poised for “Severe Retaliation” as Internal Debates Rage

Amidst internal deliberations within Iran’s leadership over the scope and nature of retaliation against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail, Brigadier General Ali Shadmani, Deputy Coordinator of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has asserted that a “severe retaliation” is imminent Haniyeh. Speaking at the 10th International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2024” in Russia, Shadmani emphasized that “the dimensions of this response are currently under review and will certainly be carried out,” underscoring Tehran’s resolve even as debates continue between hardliners pushing for direct military action and moderates advocating for more measured responses.

Brigadier General Ali Shadmani, deputy coordinator of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said that the retaliation “is imminent …the headquarters is tasked with planning and coordinating joint military operations…Iran will take severe revenge for this action by the Zionist regime…the dimensions of this response are currently under review and will certainly be carried out.… It will definitely take place.” Shadmani said, “By assassinating our dear guest (Haniyeh), the Zionist regime perpetrated an atrocity that was worse than the previous ones, prompting our beloved Leader to designate this regime’s punishment as ‘severe retaliation.'”

Shadmani referred to Israel as “a criminal Zionist gang” that had “repeatedly crossed red lines, trampling on morality and human rights.” He cited examples, including the assassination of at least seven Iranian nuclear scientists over the years and the bombing of the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus.

General Shadmani is attending the 10th international military-technical forum, “Army-2024,” August 12-14. Iran has participated in the event for the third consecutive year, showcasing a diverse array of the country’s military and defensive products. Russian Defense Minister had previously invited Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff, to visit the Army 2024 exhibition. Brigadier General Shadmani is visiting Russia on his behalf.

During the forum, Iran showcased the Mohajer-10 drone, which, according to Iranian media, represents a significant advancement in Iran’s indigenous military technology, alongside other Iranian defense products such as advanced radar systems, electronic warfare systems, missile defense systems, and ballistic missiles.
